City of Cape Town Data Development

The objective was to update the State of Energy Report and Energy Futures scenarios.

SEA was contracted by the City of Cape Town to develop and update the State of Energy Report and Energy Futures scenarios. A key component of the exercise was to work towards the systematisation of the data collection process, ensuring that City staff were capacitated in the process in order to be able to undertake this work internally in the future. SEA undertook Cape Town’s first State of Energy report in 2003 - the first in South Africa and Africa. An update was completed in 2010, including the first scenario-modelling exercise for a South African city. With this third iteration, an extensive data capture exercise has been undertaken and the first real energy trends and analysis of energy drivers has taken place.
