SAGEN

The South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN) collaborates with South African partners to manage this change and the transition to a sustainable energy future.

SAGEN is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) and co-funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) implements SAGEN in cooperation with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), the National Treasury (NT), Eskom and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

South African Local Government Association

South African Local Government Association is an autonomous association of all 257 South African local governments, comprising of a national association, with one national office and nine provincial offices.

SALGA has set out its role to represent, promote and protect the interests of local governments and to raise the profile of local government, amongst other objectives.  It has endeavored to bring focus to its mandate of supporting local government transformation in a complex environment, characterized by a highly diverse membership-base of municipalities.

South African Cities Network

The South African Cities Network (SACN) was established in 2002 as a network of South African cities and partners that encourages the exchange of information, experience and best practice on urban development and city management. Working together with South African cities and partners through research, knowledge sharing, peer learning and innovation, the SACN is at the forefront of efforts to achieve the urban futures vision outlined in the Integrated Urban Development Framework [IUDF] and the National Development Plan [NDP].

The AMEU is an association of electricity distribution utilities and commercial companies providing goods and services to the electricity distribution utilities in Southern Africa.  Industry activities are coordinated by a number of specialized committees, officers and a secretariat to the association. A special branch promotes the interests of women in the electricity distribution industry.

NERSA

National Energy Regulator of South Africa

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of Section 3 of the National Energy Regulator Act, 2004 (Act No. 40 of 2004). NERSA’s mandate is to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipelines industries in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act, 2006 (Act No. 4 of 2006), Gas Act, 2001 (Act No. 48 of 2001) and Petroleum Pipelines Act, 2003 (Act No. 60 of 2003).
