The renewable opportunity for achieving universal energy access in African C40 cities
This project showcased how C40 African cities have lead the continent’s progress towards achieving SDG 7 through renewable deployment and built their profile as key stakeholders of the transition to renewable energy systems. SEA was commissioned to develop knowledge products showcasing how renewable energy sources are relevant in an African urban context and how support from the international community can help cities trailblaze an energy revolution for Africa.
The objective was to provide Mayors of 13 African cities with the information they need to formulate a set of clear asks and recommendations to G20 Governments (e.g. financial commitments, transfers of technology, technical assistance) that could support an acceleration of the progress towards SDG 7 and towards the transition to renewable energy systems in C40 cities and across the continent.
This project delivered three impactful knowledge products. Firstly, a report on “The Renewable Opportunity for Universal Energy Access in African C40 Cities”; secondly, a concise briefing report distilling the highlights of the aforementioned report and; lastly, a set of recommendations outlining a program proposal supporting renewable energy and energy access in C40 African Cities were drawn up.
